How we choose these wedding venues

Zola builds this page from its own marketplace data: vendor listings, Zola couples’ reviews, the Zola Wedding Cost Index (ZWCI), and Zola’s 2026 Wedding Spend Survey of 720 couples. Every price on the page comes from that data.

The wedding venues shown are based in or near Alexandria and manage their own listing on Zola.

Downtown Alexandria and nearby neighborhoods like Old Town, Del Ray, and Carlyle offer excellent venue options with walkability and charm. Old Town is particularly popular for its cobblestone streets, waterfront views along the Potomac River, and proximity to guest accommodations. The area provides stunning photo backdrops at landmarks like Jones Point Park and River Farm. Above ALX Community is conveniently located in the heart of Alexandria, while The Westin Alexandria offers a full-service hotel experience steps from downtown attractions. The West End and Rosemont neighborhoods provide additional options within easy reach of the historic downtown core, making it simple for guests to explore the city before and after your celebration.

Among Zola couples marrying in Alexandria, May, September, and October are the most popular months. Spring in Alexandria brings mild temperatures and blooming gardens, making May ideal for outdoor ceremonies at waterfront venues along the Potomac River or historic estates with manicured grounds. September and October offer comfortable fall weather with lower humidity than summer months, plus gorgeous foliage that creates natural décor for photos. These shoulder-season months combine pleasant conditions with the visual appeal of seasonal transitions. Summer weddings are possible but can be warm and humid, while winter offers fewer weather guarantees but potentially more venue availability. Alexandria's proximity to the water provides scenic backdrops year-round, though spring and fall deliver the most reliably comfortable conditions for both outdoor ceremonies and guest comfort.

Alexandria's 100-guest ZWCI range (around $30,100 to $45,200) is above the national median total of $25,000 and below the metro average of around $50,100, both from Zola's 2026 Wedding Spend Survey of 720 couples. This positions Alexandria as a moderately priced metro wedding destination. Compared to nearby Virginia cities, Alexandria's budget is very similar to Richmond (around $30,000 to $45,000), Virginia Beach (around $30,000 to $44,900), and Arlington (around $30,400 to $45,600). Alexandria offers better value than major metro areas while providing the sophistication and vendor selection of a city wedding. The combination of historic charm, waterfront settings, and proximity to Washington, D.C. makes Alexandria competitive for couples seeking an elevated experience without reaching the survey's metro average of around $50,100.

For Alexandria wedding venues, booking 12 to 18 months in advance is ideal, especially if you're planning a spring or fall wedding when demand peaks. The city's historic charm and proximity to Washington, D.C. make it a popular choice for couples throughout the region, so desirable dates—particularly Saturdays from April through June and September through November—tend to fill up quickly.

If you're planning a wedding during the off-peak winter months or considering a Friday or Sunday celebration, you may find more flexibility with 8 to 12 months of lead time. However, Alexandria's most sought-after historic venues often have limited availability year-round. According to the Zola Wedding Cost Index, venue costs for 100 guests in Alexandria typically range from around $5,200 to $7,900, with starting prices based on Zola marketplace data showing a median of around $7,000.

Alexandria offers diverse neighborhoods for wedding celebrations, each with its own character. Old Town Alexandria is the most popular area, featuring cobblestone streets, 18th-century architecture, and waterfront views along the Potomac River. This historic district provides an elegant backdrop with easy access to hotels and restaurants for out-of-town guests.

The Carlyle neighborhood, adjacent to Old Town, offers a more contemporary setting with modern event spaces and convenient access to King Street Metro. Del Ray, known as "The Little Town with a Big Heart," brings a charming, artsy atmosphere with local boutiques and cafes nearby, perfect for couples seeking a more laid-back vibe.

The waterfront area along the Potomac provides stunning river views and is especially popular for spring and summer celebrations. Based on Zola marketplace data, venue starting prices across Alexandria neighborhoods range from around $1,500 to $13,500, giving couples options across Old Town's historic estates and Del Ray's intimate spaces.
