St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (aka Old St. Andrew's) was designed by architect Robert S. Schuyler in the Gothic Revival style. Schuyler also designed St. Peter's Church in Fernandina, built in 1881, as well as chapels in Waldo, Fairbanks, Pablo Beach, and Lake Santa Fe. St. Andrew's was built in 1887 on a single level using brick masonry and contained a massive front corner tower with louvered belfry and steep spire roof. It stood at 317 Florida Avenue, now 317 A. Phillip Randolph Boulevard. St. Andrew's was the only major church in the city that survived the Great Fire of 1901.

Many small venues in Jacksonville's historic neighborhoods like Riverside and San Marco operate as blank-canvas spaces that welcome outside caterers, giving you flexibility to work with local favorites or family-recommended chefs. However, venues with in-house catering typically require you to use their services, sometimes with minimum spend requirements ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 depending on guest count. When touring venues, ask specifically about kitchen access and whether the space has refrigeration and warming capabilities—important considerations given Jacksonville's warm, humid climate through much of the year. Some venues allow outside catering but require licensed and insured vendors, while others permit BYOB for beer and wine but not liquor. Waterfront venues near Neptune Beach may have stricter policies due to their established vendor relationships, so clarify catering policies before putting down a deposit.
Many small wedding venues offer flexible catering policies, though it varies significantly by venue type. Private estates, art galleries, and community spaces often allow you to bring your own caterer or alcohol, which can help you control costs and personalize your menu. However, restaurants, wineries, and all-inclusive venues typically require you to use their in-house catering services.
When evaluating catering flexibility, ask about corkage fees (usually around $15-$35, according to the Zola Wedding Cost Index per bottle), outside vendor fees, and kitchen access. Some venues that prohibit outside catering may still allow you to bring your own wine or beer with a fee. According to Zola marketplace data across 944 small venues, the median starting price is around $4,000, but venues with full catering flexibility often have higher minimums to offset lost food and beverage revenue. Always clarify minimum spend requirements upfront, as they can range from a few thousand dollars on weekdays to significantly more on peak weekend dates.
