Heist opened its doors in 2012, as Charlotte's only Craft Brewpub. Originally brewing on a 10HL German brewhouse, we expanded in 2017, adding 30 barrel production facility. Our original focus was on small-batch beer in the traditional Belgian and German style brews. In 2016, we found our stride, creating the original hazy IPA in North Carolina, CitraQuench'l. Since then, we have worked tirelessly to expand our portfolio, now ranging from hazy IPAs and pilsners to fruited sours and adjuncted stouts. We still make the occasional small batches, which are typically kept in house for pours at both our locations.

Unique venues like galleries, breweries, and warehouse spaces in neighborhoods like NoDa and South End offer exceptional flexibility for personalization. Start by understanding your venue's vendor policies—some unique spaces require you to bring in all services, giving you complete creative control over catering, florals, and bar setup. Take advantage of open floor plans to design custom layouts that reflect your style, from lounge seating areas to unconventional ceremony backdrops. Charlotte's mild spring and fall weather makes outdoor elements like rooftop ceremonies or courtyard cocktail hours particularly appealing at industrial venues. Work with your florist (budget around $4,100 for 100 guests) to enhance architectural features—exposed brick, high ceilings, and large windows—rather than covering them. Many brewery and warehouse venues have minimal built-in décor, so plan to invest in lighting, draping, or statement installations that transform the raw space into your vision.
Unique wedding venues stand out because of their distinctive architecture, unexpected locations, or special character that instantly sets the tone for your celebration. Think art galleries, historic libraries, converted warehouses, rooftop gardens, or even aquariums. These spaces often come with built-in visual interest, which means you may need less décor than a traditional ballroom.
The trade-off is that unique venues typically cost a bit more. According to Zola marketplace data across 611 unique venues, the median starting price is around $4,500, compared to about $4,000 for wedding venues overall. However, what you save on elaborate decorations often balances out the higher venue cost, since the space itself provides the wow factor.
When it comes to customization, ask about décor restrictions upfront. Some unique venues have strict rules to protect their distinctive features or artwork, while others give you complete creative freedom. Museums and galleries, for example, may limit candle usage or require specific approved vendors.
For Charlotte wedding venues, booking 12 to 18 months in advance is ideal, especially if you're planning a spring or fall wedding when demand peaks. Popular dates in April, May, September, and October get reserved quickly, and weekends at sought-after locations can book up even earlier—sometimes 18 to 24 months out.
If you're working with a shorter timeline, don't worry. Many couples successfully book venues 6 to 9 months ahead, particularly for winter or weekday celebrations. According to the Zola Wedding Cost Index, venue costs for a 100-guest wedding in Charlotte typically range from around $4,200 to $6,300, and booking earlier often gives you more negotiating room. Summer months like June and July also see high demand, so aim to secure your date at least a year ahead for those warm-weather celebrations.
Charlotte offers several distinctive neighborhoods perfect for weddings.
