Karrikin Spirits Company is a Cincinnati based craft distillery and event space in Fairfax, committed to exploring our love of flavors with the community. By definition, karrikins are the elements found in the smoke from a forest fire that trigger the regeneration of that forest. In the centuries since Whiskey Hollow was settled, those karrikins have been at work to bring distilling back to this very location on Cincinnati’s east side. In Spring of 2017, seven founding members with experience in brewing & distilling, woodworking, design, and more came together to purchase a building formerly occupied by Swallen’s and later, DnD Metal to start a journey of flavor and fire. From there, Karrikin Spirits Company was formed — a full-service, grain to glass distillery producing handcrafted spirits, sparkling spirits, non-alcoholic sodas, and beer.

Cincinnati's outdoor wedding season peaks from late May through October, with September and early October offering the most reliable weather—warm days around 75°F and lower humidity than summer months. Given the city's unpredictable spring showers and occasional summer thunderstorms, every outdoor venue should include a backup plan, whether that's an indoor ballroom, sailcloth tent, or covered pavilion. Most venues in neighborhoods like Over-the-Rhine and Mount Adams have adjacent indoor spaces built into their packages. For evening ceremonies, plan around sunset times that shift from 9:00 PM in June to 7:30 PM in September—this affects both your timeline and whether you'll need string lights or uplighting. If you're considering venues near Eden Park or along the Ohio River, factor in tent rental costs of $2,000 to $5,000 for full coverage. Book your venue 12 to 18 months ahead for peak season dates in September and October.
Late spring (May-June) and early fall (September-October) offer the most reliable weather for outdoor weddings, with comfortable temperatures and lower chances of extreme heat or storms. Summer remains popular despite heat concerns, while winter outdoor events work best in milder climates.
Every outdoor venue should have a weather backup plan, regardless of season. When touring venues, ask about:
- Indoor backup spaces included in your rental fee
- Tent options and associated costs (clear-top tents maintain the outdoor feel)
- Timeline for making the indoor/outdoor decision
- Whether backup arrangements affect your overall budget
Outdoor venues on Zola's marketplace have a median starting price of around $4,500, about 12% higher than indoor alternatives, but this often reflects the premium natural settings these locations provide. Many couples find the investment worthwhile when booking during peak weather months like May or September.
For Cincinnati wedding venues, booking 12 to 18 months in advance is recommended, especially if you're planning a wedding during peak season from May through October. Popular dates along the Ohio River and in sought-after neighborhoods like Over-the-Rhine and Mount Adams can book up even earlier—sometimes 18 to 24 months out for Saturday evenings in late spring and early fall. If you're flexible with your date or considering a Friday or Sunday celebration, you may find excellent availability with 8 to 12 months' lead time. Winter weddings in Cincinnati offer more flexibility, and couples have successfully secured beautiful venues with just 6 to 9 months of planning. According to the Zola Wedding Cost Index, venue costs in Cincinnati for 100 guests range from around $3,600 to $5,400, and early booking often provides access to the widest selection across that price spectrum.
