St. Andrew's Episcopal Church (aka Old St. Andrew's) was designed by architect Robert S. Schuyler in the Gothic Revival style. Schuyler also designed St. Peter's Church in Fernandina, built in 1881, as well as chapels in Waldo, Fairbanks, Pablo Beach, and Lake Santa Fe. St. Andrew's was built in 1887 on a single level using brick masonry and contained a massive front corner tower with louvered belfry and steep spire roof. It stood at 317 Florida Avenue, now 317 A. Phillip Randolph Boulevard. St. Andrew's was the only major church in the city that survived the Great Fire of 1901.

San Marco and Riverside are two of Jacksonville's most charming neighborhoods for affordable weddings, offering historic architecture and waterfront views without downtown premium pricing. San Marco, just south of downtown, combines Old Florida charm with walkable streets and river views—San Marco Preservation Hall is rated 5.0 out of 5 stars and draws praise for quick, responsive communication. The nearby Five Points district, where Riverside meets San Marco, features Five Points Weddings & Events, also rated 5.0 out of 5 stars, with couples calling the team "professional and eager" to help. Both neighborhoods offer tree-lined streets perfect for photos, local restaurants for rehearsal dinners, and easy access to downtown hotels. Avondale, just west along the river, provides similar historic appeal with slightly more residential pricing.

Jacksonville's top-rated affordable venues combine excellent value with outstanding service. San Marco Preservation Hall, rated 5.0 out of 5 stars with 5 reviews, earned praise from one couple who noted the venue's "quick and responsive" communication made their wedding perfect. Five Points Weddings & Events, also rated 5.0 out of 5 stars, impressed couples with its professional team who were "eager to help" throughout the planning process. For exceptional budget value, The Experience starts at around $1,000 and maintains a 5.0 out of 5 star rating, with guests calling it "a cool place for a wedding" with great communication. All three venues demonstrate that affordability doesn't mean compromising on quality or service in Jacksonville's wedding market.

Jacksonville's mild winters make November through February excellent for venue discounts—you'll avoid both summer heat and peak wedding season pricing while still enjoying comfortable outdoor ceremony weather. Consider neighborhoods like Riverside and Avondale rather than beachfront Ponte Vedra or Neptune Beach, where venue starting prices tend to run higher despite similar charm and better access to the St. Johns River for photos. Many Jacksonville venues offer package deals that bundle chairs, tables, and basic lighting into the rental price, which can save you hundreds compared to renting separately. Friday evening or Sunday afternoon weddings often come with 20-30% discounts compared to Saturday rates. Since Jacksonville has 17 affordable venues on Zola with median pricing around $1,800, you have strong negotiating leverage—venues like The Experience start at around $1,000, setting a competitive baseline for winter and weekday bookings.

Choosing an affordable venue can significantly reduce your wedding budget. According to Zola marketplace data across 1,105 affordable venues in 50 US cities, the median starting price is around $2,500 — that's about 38% lower than the overall median venue starting price of around $4,000. This savings can free up funds for other priorities like catering upgrades, photography, or your honeymoon.

To maximize savings at affordable venues, consider these strategies:

  • Book during off-peak months like January, February, or November when venues often offer lower rates
  • Choose Friday or Sunday instead of Saturday for potential discounts
  • Look for venues that allow outside catering or provide tables and chairs in their base price
  • Ask about weekday rates, which can be substantially lower

Many couples find that affordable venues in the middle 50% price range fall between around $1,300 and $3,800 to start.

For Jacksonville weddings, booking 12 to 18 months in advance is ideal, especially if you're planning a spring or fall celebration when demand peaks. The pleasant weather from March through May and September through November makes these months particularly popular along the St. Johns River and Atlantic coastline venues. Summer weddings are common too, though the heat and occasional afternoon showers make covered or indoor options wise. If you're flexible on dates or considering a winter wedding, you may find more availability with 6 to 9 months' notice. According to the Zola Wedding Cost Index, venue costs in Jacksonville range from around $3,900 to $5,900 for 100 guests, and the most sought-after properties book quickly during peak season.

Jacksonville's diverse neighborhoods each offer distinct wedding venue atmosphics. Riverside and Avondale feature historic charm with tree-lined streets and elegant early-20th-century architecture, perfect for couples seeking classic Southern elegance. San Marco provides a boutique, walkable district with upscale dining and intimate venue options. For waterfront celebrations, Neptune Beach delivers laid-back coastal vibes with easy beach access and ocean views. Ponte Vedra offers upscale resort properties and golf club venues popular for larger, more formal celebrations. The St. Johns River corridor runs through several neighborhoods and provides dramatic water views and outdoor ceremony backdrops. Based on Zola marketplace data, venues across these areas typically start around $1,000 to $6,000, with a median of around $3,000.
