Hi, I'm Kate! The heart and creative eye behind Cold River Photography! I'm a Maine-based photographer with a love for genuine connections, beautiful places, and telling stories through my lens. I specialize in weddings, elopements, couples, and families throughout New England and beyond. My approach is relaxed, personal, and rooted in capturing moments as they naturally unfold. I'll always offer a little guidance when needed, but my favorite images are the ones where you're simply being yourself. With photography and videography services, my goal is to preserve all the laughter, happy tears, and little in-between moments that make your story so special. Kate from Cold River Photography made the whole experience feel natural and easy. From our first conversation, she was easygoing and supportive, which put us at ease right away. When our schedule got tight, she rolled with the changes without hesitation and kept everything on track. What really impressed us was her talent for capturing the beautiful moments we didn't even know were happening like the candid laughs, the quiet details, the real stuff. Her work is exceptional and truly encourages us to relive our day over and over. We can't recommend Kate enough for any couple looking for a photographer who is both creative and genuinely cares about making your day special.

Great experience
Kate was great! We had an amazing time during our engagement photos and she the sneak peeks we have received from her from our wedding look great. My husband and I aren’t huge picture people, and were pretty awkward, but she was great at getting the shots in anyway.

Words won’t be enough to capture how grateful I am for Kate and her beautiful photography! I had a poor experience with the first photographer I booked, so I was very nervous to find a new one! Kate was SO easy to work with and was incredibly communicative throughout the whole process, even when I would send last-minute crazy ideas. On the day of the wedding, Kate’s calm and warm energy quite literally helped me avoid a full blown panic attack (she successfully distracted me with pictures of a baby moose—George!!!). Kate was able to capture the most special moments of our day without anyone feeling like they were under a microscope. I look forward to working with Kate for any photography needs I have in the future!! 10/10 would absolutely recommend!!

We hired Kate from Cold River Photography after being impressed by their portfolio and promises of natural, flattering, high-quality photos. Unfortunately, our experience was the opposite. Our engagement photos were blown out, poorly edited, and very unflattering, even other professional photographers we consulted agreed that the editing quality was subpar. During the shoot, there was little direction or posing guidance, and the fun, relaxed energy we were promised never came through. It became clear that the photographer realized the session wasn’t going well, as they offered to redo the shoot before it even ended. When we raised our concerns and requested a partial refund, Kate refused to even discuss it, showing no willingness to take accountability or work toward a fair resolution. We’ve ultimately decided not to move forward with her for our wedding. We’re sharing this so other couples can make an informed decision. Based on our experience, we cannot recommend this photographer for such an important occasion. I will include the very first photo she sent us in our gallery’s and compare to a selfie of what my fiancé actually looks like.

Following your engagement session on October 12th, I sent over 30 sneak peek photos within a few days and worked with you on revision edits based on your feedback. I also asked for any specific editing preferences you wanted incorporated and offered a complimentary reshoot, as the weather that day was overcast and I wanted to give you the opportunity for photos on a sunnier day that might better match your vision. Throughout this process, I’ve done my best to communicate clearly and uphold the terms outlined in our signed contract, including the retainer and cancellation policy. Which we mutually agreed upon ahead of booking. I also met with your fiancé, John, today via Zoom, where he shared that you’ve decided to move forward with another photographer. I take pride in providing all my clients with a personalized and professional experience, and I truly wish you both the best as you continue planning your wedding.

So happy with my photos!
From the moment we booked Cold River Photography, they provided quick and clear communication. Justin and Kate were a pleasure to work with. As someone who does not love having their photo taken, they made me feel comfortable in front of the camera. We had our wedding at a small restaurant which was not a typical wedding venue with low ceilings and low lighting, and it ended up raining for our outdoor ceremony. It didn’t matter as the final photos are absolutely beautiful, capturing the natural beauty of our special day in a way that feels authentic and genuine. I would highly recommend Cold River Photography to any couple looking for skilled, easy-to-work-with photographers who will deliver stunning, high-quality images you'll treasure for a lifetime.
