About this venue

The Historic Hangar is situated within Fort Vancouver National Historic Site (N.H.S.) and is adjacent to Pearson Air Museum. Fort Vancouver N.H.S. is one of the few urban National Parks, located in downtown Vancouver, Washington, and just seven miles from downtown Portland, Oregon. This Nationally Registered Historic Building was built in 1921 and was operated by the U.S. Army Signal Corps' Spruce Production Corporation. In 1924, the Army Air Service moved the building to its present location. The Historic Hangar's character and glamour of bygone eras has quickly become a favorite amongst the community. The white interior, exposed wood beams, and gorgeous view of the park grounds makes for a unique venue that can easily host any special event.

We got married just about a year ago in the old hangar at Pearson and it was perfect! We hired a live jazz band and had the hangar doors open, timing our entry with sunset behind the Fort, and it was everything I wanted. The hangar is already white and made a great blank canvas, and it has those incandescent-look patio lights hanging up inside. We had about 70 people that attended, plus the 25-person big band. The only 2 tricks were that you can't "permanently" attach anything to walls or anything, so we made some weighted window-sill decorations for the windows on the south wall, and we did have to bring our own sound system for speechifying. The only complaints I had were that we had to dispose of our own trash (which was just kind of strange for a venue IMHO since it's such a big park) and that the outside walls were just... filthy with cobwebs, dry grass, etc. so it didn't make a great backdrop for photos. I wanted to enter through the back door, so there's not a lot of photos of outside (we also had photographer issues, but that's a different thing entirely!).
