Beautiful Wedding, Frustrating Management

We were married at Tideline on July 26, right in the middle of summer and during higher-than-normal temperatures. Most importantly, our wedding day itself turned out beautifully. Our guests had no idea what we had been dealing with behind the scenes, and the ceremony and reception ultimately came together just as I had imagined. Everyone had a wonderful time! Due to the weather, we had to pivot from our planned beach ceremony to an indoor ceremony, and the staff rallied to make sure everything came together. A huge shoutout to the day-of team for working hard to ensure the event went off without a hitch for our guests. The food was also fantastic—huge compliments to the chef, kitchen staff, and service team. Everything tasted great, and we were very happy with the reception. Thankfully, the reception room itself was also a perfect temperature and was not affected by the A/C issues elsewhere on the property. Our biggest frustration was with the management of the facility and the lack of communication and transparency leading up to our wedding. Approximately two weeks before our wedding, we learned that the property was up for sale and that the A/C was not functioning properly in some of the hotel’s common areas. We were also told that the current owners did not want to invest money into certain repairs. This was incredibly stressful to learn so close to our wedding, particularly because we had guests spending money to stay on-site and our cocktail hour was scheduled to take place in the bar area. To their credit, an A/C company was brought in the week before the wedding to make adjustments, and fans were placed in the lobby on the day of our event to help with the temperature. Once we learned the property was for sale, however, it also provided some context for what had felt like a lot of nickel-and-diming as we worked through our agreement with the venue. This is a beautiful property in a wonderful location with so much potential to be an intimate gem of a boutique hotel, but it needs some TLC and investment. I sincerely hope new ownership gives the property the attention it deserves, because the potential is absolutely there. For us, better communication and transparency would have made a significant difference. Had we known about some of these issues earlier, we may have made different decisions—including potentially choosing another venue. By the time we learned everything, it was simply too late to make a change, and the additional stress during the final two weeks before our wedding was unfortunate and unnecessary. At the end of the day, though, our guests were unaware of any of the behind-the-scenes drama, our wedding was beautiful, the food was wonderful, and we had an amazing time. For that, we are very grateful to the staff who showed up on the day and worked hard to make our celebration a success.
