As a same-sex couple, we did not feel welcome at White Oaks Terrace. At the beginning of our tour, the owner assumed my 24-year-old partner was my mother (an especially strange assumption since we are an interracial couple). When she realized that she was actually my partner and that we are a same-sex couple, her reaction immediately made us uncomfortable. She commented that she “didn’t expect us,” and her tone and demeanor noticeably changed. Throughout the tour, we were treated as unusual rather than as a normal couple planning their wedding. I was extremely kind and gracious in my original review on google because I wanted to give the owners an opportunity to address the situation and improve in the future. I reached out privately, explained exactly what happened, and gave them an opportunity to apologize. In their reply, they refused to do so, and I am now unfortunately confident that this is not something they intend to improve. The venue itself is beautiful, but that does not make up for how we were treated. As important as it is to me to lead with kindness and compassion, I care more about being honest with other LGBTQ couples than I do about how the owners feel about this review. If you are an LGBTQ couple or ally considering White Oaks Terrace, please know that the only thing about you they’re happy to take is your money. You deserve to spend your wedding day somewhere that genuinely wants to celebrate your relationship.
