Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, our meeting house was constructed in 1930 during the administration of the Quaker president, Herbert Hoover. It was built to serve as a house of worship and a gathering place for those wanting to “seek peace and pursue it.” The building was enlarged in 1950. In 1970, we acquired the red brick Quaker House, Carriage House and garden at 2121 Decatur Place NW. Built in the 1920s and also on the National Register, these buildings today house a number of nonprofit organizations and small businesses as well as additional event spaces. With multiple interior spaces and gardens, we can accommodate events of various sizes and layouts, from 2 to 300. We host individuals, non-profit organizations, and for-profit entities. Our event rental prices are affordable, with discounts offered to non-profit organizations in alignment with our values. Whether you are planning a wedding, celebration, a corporate meeting, we can accommodate you.

How we choose these small wedding venues

The wedding venues shown are based in or near Washington and manage their own listing on Zola.

Outside catering policies vary widely among Washington's small wedding venues, with many requiring you to use their preferred vendor list or in-house services—especially at hotels and established event spaces. Independent venues like art galleries, historic homes, and industrial lofts in neighborhoods like Navy Yard and Georgetown tend to offer more flexibility, though they often require licensed and insured caterers.
If bringing your own alcohol is important to you, ask specifically about corkage fees and whether the venue provides bar staff, as DC's liquor licensing can be strict. Some venues set minimum spend requirements that can offset the savings from outside catering, particularly on peak wedding months from May through October. Venues with full commercial kitchens typically charge less in rental fees but restrict outside food service, while raw spaces starting from around $3,000 often welcome independent caterers.
Many small wedding venues offer flexible catering policies, though it varies significantly by venue type. Private estates, art galleries, and community spaces often allow you to bring your own caterer or alcohol, which can help you control costs and personalize your menu. However, restaurants, wineries, and all-inclusive venues typically require you to use their in-house catering services.
When evaluating catering flexibility, ask about corkage fees (usually around $15-$35, according to the Zola Wedding Cost Index per bottle), outside vendor fees, and kitchen access. Some venues that prohibit outside catering may still allow you to bring your own wine or beer with a fee. According to Zola marketplace data across 944 small venues, the median starting price is around $4,000, but venues with full catering flexibility often have higher minimums to offset lost food and beverage revenue. Always clarify minimum spend requirements upfront, as they can range from a few thousand dollars on weekdays to significantly more on peak weekend dates.
