Owner and Lead Floral Designer

Gwen is the founder and head floral designer. She developed a love for flowers through family gardening and carried with her her whole life. With a history working for over 10 years as an event and meeting planner in the non-profit world Gwen learned how to work with Pittsburgh vendors and source locally. In this latest chapter of her life she’s spent countless hours attending workshops, attending lectures, reading floral books, and honing her design skills always looking to learn new things. Gwen supplements her designs year round with flowers and greens that she grows from her own garden like peony, dahlia, and hydrangea.

What sets Sugar Flowers and Leaves apart is our deeply personal and creative approach to floral design. As a Pittsburgh-native florist with roots in local gardening and community events, we bring a lifelong passion and regional sensibility to every arrangement. Drawing on years of experience working with Pittsburgh vendors and growing her own seasonal blooms like peonies, dahlias, and hydrangeas, Gwen blends locally sourced flowers with thoughtful design to create arrangements that feel alive, timeless, and uniquely tailored to each client’s vision.

    Communication with Gwen was quick and responsive. She was a great thought partner working out colors and what types of flowers would be available during the month of our wedding to help keep costs down. I would hire again in a heartbeat.

    Gwen was a delight to work with and did an amazing job! She heard our request that the house warming gift be modern and unique and delivered in spades.     I owe Gwen and the team at Sugar Flower and Leaves Floral EVERYTHING!!! I originally planned to DIY my florals but realized a few months before my wedding that I needed help. Gwen immediately understood my vision and came to me with endless amazing ideas. She was able to incorporate pieces I already had and even saved the day a couple days before the wedding with purchasing last minute items for me. Gwen is one of the nicest vendors and I'm truly so happy to have worked with her. Gwen also goes above and beyond to help with set up and room changes as well as donating florals after the event.     I have ordered flowers multiple times and they are always exactly what I wanted. Beautiful arrangements. Gwen and staff are timely and professional. Definitely recommend!

We travel all over Pittsburgh. Some north areas and areas south into West Virginia. Tell us where you are getting married we will plan accordingly. Because we are based in Sewickley a suburb of Pittsburgh our focus is Pittsburgh and surrounding areas but we have travelled.
$4,000 on a Saturday. All other days of the week there is no minimum spend. We do everything a la carte so you are only buying what you need. A typical full custom wedding with a ceremony, personal flowers, and reception typically runs $4k-$7K.
As long as you have a confirmed date and a booked venue we can work two years out to book. The sooner you book the better because you can lock in your date. Especially during spring and fall which are the most popular months for weddings.
We can totally do mock ups for certain florals. They are not included in the cost of the wedding but are always available and we understand the desire to see things in advance. That is always an option.
Our consultation process is usually done either over the phone or in person. It takes about one hour. We have forms to fill out on our website and then we start the process for consult. From there we finalize the design, go to contract, and then we meet again one month prior to the wedding. Additional meetings can be arranged.
We have two types of weddings. Full custom weddings and a pre-designed collection. The pre-designed collection are made up of pre-chosen colors and color palettes. They are our designs but priced for the more budget conscious bride. They are designed to be delivery or pick up only. Our custom weddings are a la carte. You buy what you need. There is a minimum spend of $4,000 for a Saturday wedding but no minimum for any other day of the week.
