We Asked to Postpone. They Told Us It Was Safe.

We spent 29,000 on our September 26, 2026 wedding at The Vineyards at Aquebogue. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this venue. Three days before our wedding, a major nor’easter was forecast. We contacted Lessing’s because we were concerned about severe winds, flooding, dangerous road conditions, and whether the enclosed patio could safely protect approximately 120 guests. We specifically asked about postponing. We were reassured that the patio would function like an indoor space and protect us from the weather. We relied on those assurances. What happened was exactly what we feared. Our decorator arrived to soaking wet floors, wet dining ware with rain debris, difficulty locating staff, and a DJ unable to safely set up because of water near electrical equipment. The water continued throughout our reception. It came down portions of the patio walls and into the room while guests were eating, walking, and dancing. Water accumulated around and behind the DJ area and around wiring while powered equipment was operating. This created serious slip-and-fall and electrical safety concerns. Lessing’s later acknowledged in writing that the patio was wet, had to be mopped, continued experiencing water as the wind increased, and required precautions around the DJ’s electrical connections. The DJ booth itself was never raised. Our coordinator spent portions of our wedding dealing with water instead of coordinating our event. Water was also reported entering the bridal suite near the balcony door. We lost wedding-day photos after being moved from the ceremony area, then the reception area, and ultimately directed to the balcony during severe wind and rain. We had young children with us and refused to put them in that situation. We later paid photographers to recreate some photos, but our daytime wedding became a nighttime reshoot and not everyone could return. Our neurodivergent son was terrified the storm would hurt us and barely participated. Our two-and-a-half-year-old daughter was frightened too. We also did not receive all of the food and beverage service we paid for. Guests reported missing passed desserts and difficulty obtaining beverages. My husband and I did not receive the passed desserts either. We were told fresh food would be packed for us, but food already sitting at our table was packaged instead. The General Manager later confirmed in writing that she was onsite, yet she never introduced herself to us or our vendors, and we were never given a direct number for her or the staff later identified as our contacts. At the end of our reception, I tried to thank our guests and direct them to our after-party. According to our coordinator, the woman later identified as the General Manager directed staff to shut off power to the DJ speakers because our wedding was over. Our DJ told me his equipment was still running, but the speakers had lost power. Lessing’s later denied cutting the power. Our decorator also documented that staff asked to use our custom aisle runner and decorations for the next wedding. She refused. We tried to prevent this. We asked about postponing. We raised the safety concerns. We relied on Lessing’s assurances. This is not a complaint because it rained. It is about water entering an occupied reception, guests walking and dancing on wet floors, water around electrical wiring and powered equipment, poor management communication, missing paid services, and irreplaceable wedding moments.

    Summer wedding

Kate at The Vineyards at Aquebogue is amazing. The venue is beautiful, elegant, and provided the perfect backdrop for our special day. The team was on top of everything to make our wedding day run smoothly. While I wish I could have met with the maitre d and bridal attendant prior to the event to go over a few details, they were great overall and the venue itself is incredible from the decor to the food. As my guests were leaving, all I kept hearing was “this was the best wedding we ever been to” and “the food was amazing!” To me, that summed it up!
