“Steeple Hall At Mission Oak Grill was the perfect venue for our wedding. From the start, Nick (the venue coordinator) was incredibly punctual, flexible, and helpful in planning every detail of our special day. The space itself is beautiful, with nice wooden floors, an open and simple layout, and high ceilings that create a lovely ambiance. Nick was incredibly attentive and made sure everything ran smoothly. He helped us figure out the best seating chart and managed all the events at our reception, even making sure my husband and I took the time to eat! He went out of his way to make sure our parents and immediate family had enough food and everything they needed too! The food was also incredible - all of our guests raved about how amazing it was. The entire wait staff was punctual with their timing and so nice. We would highly recommend Steeple Hall At Mission Oak Grill to any couple looking to get married in the Newburyport area.”

“Working with Rockingham Ballroom has been a pleasure from start to finish. I have my First Dance Wedding couples practice in the venue space prior to the wedding and they are alway very accommodating. This gives my couples confidence so there are no surprises on the day of as they are familiar with the space, the size of the dance floor and the floor itself and the seating arrangements. We are able to orientate each dip and dance skill on the floor . This is important for optimization for photos and video. A massive relief for my couples as they know how the dance will look and feel on the day of. Takes one less unknown element away from what can be a nervous aspect of the wedding. Makes it fun and happy and the guests are impressed if not flabbergasted by the couple’s incredible First Wedding Dance. A show stopper is created and enjoyed by all.”

Our story begins in 1858 when Frank Jones arrived in Portsmouth with a dream of brewing ale. Within three decades, The Frank Jones Brewery became the largest ale producer in the country. As ale production expanded, the brewery added a cooperage and scald house to clean the barrels. Workers used scalding hot rocks to sanitize barrels because soap and water would cause them to warp. Once cleaned, the barrels were filled with Jones’ signature ales. The Hawthorn now occupies this Scald House, retaining its original red-brick walls, towering beams, and industrial windows. “Cheers,” then, has a whole new meaning at The Hawthorn. When you raise your glass at your event, you’ll be toasting in a place that’s positively brewing with Portsmouth ale-making heritage and local history.
