I’m Matthew, a documentary wedding photographer based in Garrison, NY. I’ve photographed weddings for a decade, alongside a 15-year teaching career. The classroom shapes how I work: I meet every situation with empathy, plan carefully with you beforehand, and stay calm when the day gets busy. About 90% of my coverage is candid. I blend in and witness what unfolds, then step in with light direction for family photos and portraits. Couples tell me they forgot I was there, and my favorite compliment is that guests thought I was a family member with a camera. I work with all couples and celebrate every kind of love.
I know Hudson Valley venues first-hand, from The Garrison and Boscobel to The Ruins at Sassafras and The Barn at Villa Venezia. That knowledge goes into your timeline, which we build together to protect time with your guests, not just time for portraits. I bring a second photographer to most full-day weddings and offer films of your first dance and toasts, so one team can document the whole day. Couples describe their galleries as emotional, full of energy, and true to how the day felt. I work across the Hudson Valley, Westchester, and NYC. The Best Photographer!
We truly cannot say enough amazing things about Matthew Rigby! From our beautiful engagement photo session throughout Beacon and along the waterfront to our wedding day at St. Joachim Church and The Roundhouse, Matthew was absolutely incredible every step of the way! From the very beginning, Matthew made us feel so comfortable and at ease in front of the camera. He is genuinely one of the kindest people and has such a warm, welcoming personality that makes being photographed feel so natural. Our engagement photo session was such a wonderful experience, and the photos were everything we could have hoped for and more! He made the entire experience so enjoyable and gave us such beautiful memories from such an exciting time in our lives. On our wedding day, Matthew went above and beyond in every possible way. Not only is he incredibly talented, professional, and organized, but he is also such a genuinely kind and down-to-earth person. He made everyone feel comfortable, from our wedding party to our families, and brought such a positive and calming presence throughout the entire day. Welcome Party bliss captured beautifully!
We are so grateful to have had Matthew photograph our welcome party. From the very beginning, he was incredibly thoughtful and intentional, asking such meaningful questions leading up to the event to really understand what was important to us and who we wanted to have captured. He did such an amazing job documenting the excitement and emotion of the night before our wedding, from every embrace and laugh to all of the little candid moments we may have otherwise forgotten. Our Special Day
Matthew was the absolute best choice to capture our special day. He was thoughtful and warm while being extremely well-prepared and professional. He guided us through a seamless experience including advising us on when to take our pictures and where. He captured our very large family without forgetting a name and we ended 10 minutes ahead of schedule on a very hot day. Thank you, Matthew!

We had the pleasure of having Matthew be our wedding photographer on 6/20/2026. Leading up to the day, he was nothing but helpful and informative in providing us with information for how the day would go and how he would be a fly on the wall. He had previously worked at our venue which meant he was able to give us plenty of guidance on where the best photos would be for not only first look but also family photos. On the physical day, Matthew not only helped with last minute set up at the venue but was absolutely incredible with all our family. He made taking all the photos so easy and organized that it made the day run so smooth. We had let him know how we wanted to incorporate as much of the scenery around the venue into our photos and he absolutely crushed it. Every single photo from the beginning to end of the evening is incredible. He did an amazing job capturing all our friends and family throughout the event and we have so many candids that we’ve gotten to share with everyone. His talent is also unmatched - the lighting, the sunset photos, the aesthetics, all 10/10. Besides being an incredible photographer, he is also an incredible person. All our family and friends had nothing but the best things to say about him and those praises continue to come as people see the photos he took the day of. Creative, Kind, and Prepared
If you’re looking for a wedding photographer, stop searching and book Matthew Rigby. From our very first meeting, Matt took the time to get to know us as a couple. He wanted to understand our personalities and the kind of photos we actually wanted instead of giving us the same staged, cookie-cutter wedding pictures you see everywhere. We knew right away that he was the perfect fit. At our engagement session, we had a fun idea since we were getting married on 7/11—we asked if we could take photos inside a 7-Eleven, and without hesitation, Matt was all in. That perfectly sums him up. He’s creative, flexible, and always willing to embrace your vision, no matter how unique it is. To make things even better, our engagement shoot ended up taking place in the rain. Instead of calling it off or letting the weather get in the way, Matt embraced it and created some incredible photos that we absolutely love. He truly knows how to make the best of any situation. On our wedding day, everything ran so smoothly. We hired two photographers since the bridal party and groomsmen were getting ready in different locations, and thank you Matthew for bringing along Kevin. He was an amazing addition to the team. The groomsmen absolutely loved him. He brought such a relaxed, fun energy that made a room full of guys—who definitely weren’t excited about taking pictures—actually enjoy the experience. He encouraged their goofy ideas while still making sure they got great shots, and it made a huge difference. Another thing that really stood out was how great Matt is with kids. If you have children in your wedding party, you’ll appreciate his patience and ability to keep them engaged. As a teacher himself, he’s organized, professional, and incredibly calm under pressure. One thing we specifically told Matt was that we didn’t want to spend our entire cocktail hour taking photos. He completely respected that. He kept everything organized and efficient, and because of that, we actually got to enjoy our cocktail hour with our guests—a memory we’ll always be grateful for. The finished photos are absolutely stunning. His editing style is timeless and natural, and every image feels authentic to us. At the end of the day, beautiful photos are the goal, but the experience matters just as much. You spend more time with your photographer on your wedding day than almost anyone else. If you don’t feel comfortable with them, it shows in the pictures. Matt is easygoing, personable, and someone who genuinely makes you feel relaxed and like yourself. That’s exactly why our photos turned out so naturally. We can’t recommend Matthew Rigby Photography highly enough. If you want photographers who are talented, creative, organized, and genuinely fun to spend your wedding day with, they’re the team to book.
