The Wright Place is an elegant wedding venue in Shepherd, Michigan, designed for couples who want more than a few rushed hours to celebrate. Our full-weekend (Friday-Sunday) rental gives you time to rehearse, decorate, get ready, celebrate, and enjoy the experience at your own pace. Just minutes from Mt. Pleasant, our venue brings your ceremony, reception, and wedding-day preparations together in one location. Couples have access to indoor and outdoor ceremony options, two private getting-ready suites, and more than 6,000 square feet of climate-controlled reception space for up to 375 guests.     Mother of Bride

    The Wright Place made planning our wedding so easy with their fast and helpful communication every step of the way. They provided us with the entire weekend to set up and celebrate, which meant we didn't feel rushed and could really soak in every moment of our special day. We loved having two separate bridal suites so our bride and groom each had their own space to get ready before the ceremony. The venue itself is stunning with beautiful, timeless classic greenery throughout that made everything feel elegant without being over the top. Our peak wedding season is May through October.
Our off-peak wedding season is November through April, offering couples the same full-weekend experience at a lower seasonal rate.
Yes! Couples may provide their own alcohol, giving you more flexibility and control over your bar budget. All alcohol must be served by a licensed and insured bartender who meets The Wright Place's bartending requirements. Additional alcohol and insurance requirements are outlined in our rental agreement.
The Wright Place is located at 550 W Wright Avenue, Shepherd, MI 48883, in central Michigan and approximately 10 minutes from Central Michigan University and nearby the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort. We have two on-site parking lots available for couples, guests, and vendors throughout the wedding weekend.
Our wedding rental is designed to give couples exclusive access to the spaces and essentials they need for their wedding weekend (Friday-Sunday), including: -Reception space and its foyer area, prep kitchen, bar, restrooms, 2 outdoor patios with pergola and landscaped lawn -On-site parking -15 (3.5"x10') farmhouse tables -16 8-foot banquet tables -2 6-foot banquet tables -6 60" round tables -Chiavari chairs with cushions -Exclusive access to our ceremony spaces, including seating and floral arch. -Exclusive access to both getting ready suites and their private baths, changing rooms, and patio. -Cleaning service before rental -Dumpster access
Our wedding rental includes the entire weekend, from 8:00 a.m. Friday through 2:00 p.m. Sunday. Couples often use Friday to decorate and rehearse, Saturday for the ceremony and reception, and Sunday for gathering belongings or hosting a farewell brunch. The weekend is yours to customize, giving you more time to enjoy the experience without fitting everything into a single day.

We recommend reserving hotel room blocks early, particularly on weekends that coincide with Central Michigan University events or football games.

When you’re ready to officially reserve your date, a signed Venue Rental and Services Agreement and 30% deposit are required. We currently accept wedding bookings for the current year and up to two years in advance. Availability varies throughout the year, with May through October typically being our most popular wedding season. Certain dates can book significantly earlier than others, so we recommend reaching out as soon as you have a date or general timeframe in mind. Because availability is always changing, check our "Date Availability" section on our website or contact us for our most up-to-date open dates.
Absolutely! We offer personalized venue tours by appointment. A tour gives you the opportunity to explore the reception space, ceremony options, getting-ready suites, patios, and other venue spaces while asking questions and talking through what your wedding weekend could look like at The Wright Place. Our wedding pricing is designed to be straightforward so you aren't surprised by additional venue fees later. Outside of the rental rate, couples should plan for: A $500 refundable security deposit, which is returned after the wedding as long as the venue is left in accordance with the rental agreement. A $1 million special event liability insurance policy naming The Wright Place as an additional insured. These policies can typically be purchased through most insurance providers and often cost approximately $100–$200. Complete pricing information is included in our Wedding Guide. Fill out the Inquiry Form on our website to receive a copy.
A 30% deposit is required at booking to officially reserve your wedding date. The remaining facility rental balance, refundable security deposit, and any selected venue add-ons are due 45 days before the wedding. Couples are also welcome to make smaller payments toward their balance at any time before the final payment deadline.
Because your wedding date is reserved exclusively for you and may prevent us from accepting another booking, payments are subject to the cancellation terms outlined in your Venue Rental and Services Agreement. For cancellations: -More than 6 months before the wedding: the booking deposit is forfeited. -3–6 months before the wedding: all payments already made are forfeited, plus 20% of the remaining balance is due. -Less than 3 months before the wedding: all payments already made are forfeited, plus 50% of the remaining balance is due. -No refunds are provided for no-shows or partial use of the venue.
Yes. A $500 refundable security deposit is collected prior to the wedding and is separate from your facility rental fee. The deposit is returned after the event as long as the venue is left in good condition and there are no damages, excessive cleaning needs, missing venue property, or other charges outlined in the Venue Rental and Services Agreement.
A signed Venue Rental and Services Agreement and 30% deposit are required to officially reserve your wedding date. Dates are booked on a first-come, first-served basis and are not considered reserved until both the signed agreement and deposit have been received.
We do not place complimentary holds on wedding dates. Because multiple couples may be considering the same date, availability remains first-come, first-served until a signed contract and 30% deposit are received.
The Wright Place does not provide in-house catering or bar service, which gives couples the flexibility to choose the food and beverage options that best fit their wedding, preferences, and budget. Couples are welcome to hire an outside caterer or food service provider as long as they are licensed and insured. Alcohol may also be brought into the venue, but all alcoholic beverages must be served in accordance with our alcohol policies by a certified/licensed bartender.
No! The Wright Place is an open-vendor venue, so you are welcome to choose the photographers, DJs, florists, caterers, planners, and other professionals who best fit your vision. We do maintain a list of trusted vendors that we have worked with or recommend, and we’re always happy to share those suggestions, but couples are not required to use them. Certain vendors, such as bartenders and food service providers, must meet applicable licensing, insurance, and venue requirements.
Absolutely. We love seeing couples personalize the venue and make the space their own. You are welcome to bring your own centerpieces, signage, florals, table décor, ceremony décor, and other decorative elements. We simply ask that all décor follow our venue guidelines and that nothing permanently alters or damages the building, furniture, walls, or other venue property. We do not allow affixing items to walls/ceilings, confetti, glitter, rice, fog machines, or pyrotechnics.
Alcohol: Alcohol is permitted at The Wright Place, but it must be served by a qualified bartender who meets our licensing, training, and insurance requirements. Required insurance documentation must be submitted prior to the wedding. Candles & open flames: Real candles and other open flames may be permitted ONLY with the addition of our open flame fee and with prior approval and must follow our fire-safety requirements. Smoking & vaping: Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside any venue building. Guests who choose to smoke or vape must do so outdoors in the designated areas and dispose of all materials appropriately.
Bartenders must meet our applicable training and insurance requirements, including appropriate alcohol-service training such as TIPS or an equivalent program. Proof of either the bartender's insurance or additional host liquor liability must be provided before the wedding.
Tables and chairs are included with our wedding rentals, but linens, napkins, dinnerware, glassware, and flatware are not automatically included. Couples are welcome to rent these items from an outside vendor or select any applicable venue add-ons that are available for their wedding.
Yes. Couples may have the option to add access to our venue décor collection for an additional fee. Because inventory can change, available pieces and current pricing will be provided as part of the planning process. Linens and napkins are not included with décor access.
Your access to The Wright Place begins at the start of the rental period outlined in your Venue Rental and Services Agreement, typically beginning at 8 A.M. on Friday and ending at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday. Our wedding rentals are designed to give couples plenty of time to settle in, decorate, rehearse, get ready, and enjoy the venue without feeling rushed into a single wedding-day timeline. Your contracted rental period includes exclusive access to the venue and its included spaces.
We understand that wedding plans evolve! If your guest count, ceremony plans, floor plan, vendors, timeline, or other event details change after booking, simply let us know as soon as possible. As your wedding approaches, we’ll collect your final event details, including your guest count, ceremony selection, table and chair needs, floor plan, vendor information, and other setup details so everything is ready for your wedding weekend. Changes requested after final details have been submitted may be accommodated when possible but can be subject to availability, staffing, setup requirements, or additional fees.
Yes. Couples with wedding rentals may coordinate a ceremony rehearsal and rehearsal dinner during their contracted venue access period (Friday-Sunday.) One of the benefits of having extended access to The Wright Place is the flexibility to use the venue for additional wedding-weekend moments such as a rehearsal dinner, welcome gathering, or time with your wedding party. Please discuss your plans with us in advance so we can make sure they fit within your rental agreement and venue policies.
Yes. One of the advantages of The Wright Place is having a dedicated indoor ceremony option available if weather makes an outdoor ceremony impractical. We will work with you as your wedding approaches to determine the best ceremony location based on your plans and the forecast.
We have a cleaning crew who will clean the venue before and after your event. Couples and their vendors are responsible for removing personal belongings, décor, food, rental items, and anything else brought into the venue. The venue must be returned in accordance with the expectations outlined in your rental agreement.
We know pets are an important part of the family, and we’re happy to consider including them in your wedding day. Pets may be permitted at The Wright Place with prior approval and must remain under the supervision of a designated handler at all times. Couples should discuss any plans to include a pet with us in advance so we can make sure the arrangement works with the venue, ceremony location, and overall event setup. Service animals are permitted in accordance with applicable law.
A 30% deposit is due at the time of booking, along with your signed Venue Rental and Services Agreement, to officially reserve your wedding date. The remaining facility rental balance, $500 refundable security deposit, and any selected venue add-ons are due 45 days before your wedding. You’re also welcome to make smaller payments toward your balance at any time before the final payment deadline if that works better for you.
The Wright Place is proudly family-owned and operated by the Cox and DiCapo families. Our families purchased the venue in 2025 and began thoughtfully renovating and reimagining the property with the goal of creating a wedding venue that feels beautiful, welcoming, and genuinely enjoyable for couples and their guests. Because we are independently and family-owned, we’re personally involved in the venue and the experience we provide. From continuing to improve the property to helping couples prepare for their wedding weekends, The Wright Place is something our families take a great deal of pride in.
