At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. Country Club of Greenfield was established in 1896. It is one of the finest, and oldest, golf courses in New England. On October 22, 2011 the former clubhouse was destroyed in an unfortunate fire.
